The Case of the Non-Stop Beeping

The Case of the Non-Stop Beeping
// Summary
One inch. That's all it took to shut down a 40-foot RV. A hidden hydraulic indicator had Scott Fuller stuck at Cherry Creek Campground in Denver with a mysterious beep he couldn't locate and every other "24/7" shop dark. Except us. Tech arrived in 45 minutes.

The Case of the Non-Stop Beeping: A Cherry Creek Campground Mystery

By Caleb Markovich

The culprit: a pinhead-sized hydraulic indicator LED hidden above the door of Scott's RV cab.

It was the classic kind of “idiot tax” mistake of the kind that can happen to anyone.

Scott Fuller, owner of Sunset Construction & Design, was at Cherry Creek Campground in Denver, Colorado, ready to hit the road in his Super C RV. As soon as he turned on his ignition, he realized something was wrong. A persistent, unfamiliar beeping started going off. It wouldn't stop, and it was driving Scott crazy.

“My truck was making this obnoxious beeping noise,” Scott recalls, “and we had no idea what was going on."

Scott's immediate thought was that the beeping was an airbag indicator warning, and he spent 5 minutes trying to pressurize the system. No dice.

There was another problem: Scott has hearing issues in his left ear, and that made finding the source of the beeping next to impossible.

Confused, frustrated, and trying not to let the incessant beeping get to him, Scott was at a loss.

TL;DR: A hidden indicator light shut down a 40-foot RV.

  • Always check hydraulic system status before departure
  • Cab echo can mask the real source of warning beeps
  • Most "24/7" repair services in Denver weren't answering — Truckup was
  • George quoted "at least an hour" — tech arrived in 45 minutes
  • The fix took 30 seconds once they found the pinhead-sized LED
  • You're paying for availability and expertise, not wrench time

Chasing Echoes Through the Cab

At first, Scott thought it was the airbag pressure on the fritz.

“I panicked, thinking, okay, great, we're clear over in Colorado, and now I've got some airbag issues,” Scott thought to himself.

Scott went down the checklist and did everything he could think of.

Flipping the airbag switch off and on. Pressurize the air system for 5 minutes. Watching the airbags inflate properly.

Nothing. The beeping wouldn’t stop.

A few things were going on here. For one thing, Scott's ear issues made it tricky to pinpoint the source of the noise. The design of the cab was also causing the beep to echo, and that sure didn't help either.

Scott couldn’t just sit there in the middle of nowhere all day. He needed help.

George Delivers on His Promise

The next thing he did was pull up his phone and search for "mobile truck repair near me, Denver." Truckup was one of the first results that popped up. It was also the only one that was open.

Most truck maintenance shops in Denver are dead and shuttered at this hour of the night. Truckup works with verified mobile mechanics who offer 24/7 roadside assistance to get drivers back on the road fast so they avoid an expensive towing call.

Scott called the number and got in touch with George, one of Truckup’s dispatchers and sales reps.

"He said it'd probably be at least an hour before you get a mechanic out there,” Scott said. “That's okay. I mean, I didn't expect them to jump and go.”

To his surprise and relief, the tech got there in less time than that, under 45 minutes.

There's just one little problem: the tech had a hearing loss in his left ear, too.

They got down to business, got in the cab, and started looking around.

Two Mechanics, Two Good Ears, One Solution

And so, the investigation began.

It was slow going at first. A case of the blind leading the blind. Tracking the echo of the incessant, using their "two good right ears" to find the non-stop beeping through the left side of the cab.

Then, finally, they found it.

Right above the door opening, there was a tiny arrow pointing downwards. Pointing at a cell-phone-sized display panel at a tiny LED light the size of a pinhead.

It was the hydraulic system. The arm only dropped by about an inch. That's all it was.

They flicked the switch, they retracted the hydraulic arm, and the beeping stopped.

A quick, simple fix. That’s all it was.

“We both looked at each other, and I said, 'Really?'"

The two of them burst out laughing.

Why Scott Would Call Again

As Scott recalls, "it was a very pricey learning experience," but one that nevertheless got Scott's RV up and running again in the wee hours of the morning and back on the road. Even if the solution was a simple fix, the timing and responsiveness really came in clutch.

"Yes, I would recommend Truckup as far as the response time," Scott says with satisfaction. "George was very helpful, very thorough in his conversations, and got a tech out there to me."

As for the problem and diagnosis? These things happen, and more often than you might think.

"It's a mechanical component. Something's going to break eventually."

Now he knows. Always check the hydraulic system before taking off.

Sometimes, you’re not paying for a complex repair, but for professional expertise and peace of mind.

It just goes to show. Even professionals who know what they're doing need a second set of eyes and ears.

“Being a mobile mechanic allows me to earn significantly more than I would in a traditional garage setting. The convenience I provide to customers, coupled with the lower overhead costs, means I can charge a premium for my services and keep a larger share of my earnings.”
